Clamp-on Fluid Composition
Dispersion Stability

PCM Sensor for 2" pipe                         Electronics Unit

Clamp-on Process Sensing

The PCM-100 will operate on any homogeneous liquid that will carry a sound wave.  The presence of small amounts of gas bubbles is adjusted for by the monitor.  Due to the non-intrusive, clamp-on design, the monitor cannot be fouled by the process fluids.  In addition, it can be installed and moved without interfering with normal operations. Calibration of the PCM-100 is based on samples of the process liquid. Up to ten calibrations can be stored to allow operation with various process formulations.

Field programmable, microprocessor design

Principle of operation

A pair of sonic transducers are clamped on opposite sides of the process pipe.  High frequency sonic waves are sent out by one transducer, pass through the pipe walls and fluid, and are sensed by the other transducer.  High-speed processing of the sonic signal is used to calculate the component concentration. The concentration is displayed on the terminal and output as a 4-20 milliamp signal.

Applications

The clamp-on monitor can be used on any process where fluid composition needs to be measured for for quality assurance. It is applied to process applications where samples are currently being analyzed and operations would benefit from reduced sampling and/or continuous measurements.  Applications requiring sensitive composition monitoring include:

Examples

bullet
bullet
Monitor effluents from industrial plants
bullet
Control quality of chemical products
bullet
Measure solids concentration on-line
bullet
Monitor reactions in real time (polymerization)
